Former Maricopa County Assessor Paul Petersen, who was indicted for 62 counts of human trafficking in three states and $800k in Medicaid/AHCCCS fraud, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of fraudulent schemes and practices in Arizona and plead guilty to human smuggling and other charges in Utah.
“Justice is partially served,” said Democratic Candidate for Maricopa County Assessor Aaron Connor.
“These evil acts happened on the county’s watch while Petersen was paid with taxpayer money and went overlooked for years. Petersen has selfishly shattered countless families’ lives for years to come. He has exploited women for his own personal gain.
My heart and thoughts go out to all of the families he destroyed. I hope this plea deal lends them some comfort.
My dedication to a platform of government transparency, fair and accurate assessments, and property justice is unwavering. I have dedicated the majority of my career to advising individuals on the most important purchase of their lives, a home, while configuring the technology to make that purchase seamless.
I am passionate about helping people achieve their American dream. If elected, this passion will guide me with every decision I make as the next elected Maricopa County Assessor. It’s time that we have an assessor that not only values property but the people who live in them.”
